This is a collection of Windows Backgrounds I made, starting
from a collection of images which
claims to be in the public domain. You may download these backgrounds and
use them as you please.
My aim was to create background images that (a) were interesting, by
whatever subconscious criteria I used and (b) were PG rated, so I could
actually use them on my PC without my colleagues freaking out (too much).
I might have succeeded in both; judge for yourself.
Most of the original images appeared to be scans of printed pictures
that were then converted to JPEGs, and hence some of the images did not
start out as high quality. I've modified all of them, some more heavily
than others, and I threw away many that did not work well as backgrounds.
These backgrounds are optimized for a 1024x768 display on a PC running
Windows. My general assumption is that you will keep your icons along the
left hand side and keep a single-row task bar at the bottom. If you don't,
some of the images might not work as well for you.
Remember: these are merely images that I thought were interesting. Any
thematic resemblance you might see between them is a figment of your own
imagination.

Click on a thumbnail to download the corresponding Windows
Background ZIP file.
After downloading the ZIP file, unZIP
it (usually in your WINDOWS directory, though you can put it anywhere).
Right click on your desktop, select Properties, then select the
file you just put there. Click on OK and you're done.
