Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13, 1973
Once upon a time there was a mother who had a son
who had a very bad habit:
he didn't like chocolate covered cherries.
Oh, he reveled in candy bars & chocolate drops &
rock candy & peanut brittle,
but he just didn't like chocolate-covered cherries.
What's so bad about this?, I hear you say.
Well it seem that his mother did.
Like chocolate-covered cherries, that is.
Now she bought her son marshmallows & cookies &
M&Ms & ice cream cones, and all sorts of good stuff,
and then ate them all (well, almost all) herself.
Which was a pretty underhanded & sneaky thing to do.
Especially since she was always on a diet.
But then, it was pretty clever, too,
since she could always say they were for her son.
And then eat one herself.
Or two.
Or so.
But anyhow, seems that even though she just loved
chocolate-covered cherries,
he didn't.
So she couldn't get any.
'Cause even if she said she was getting them for her son,
nobody would believe her.
So, Mom, in commemoration of all those candy bars &
chocolate drops & rock candy & peanut brittle &
marshmallows & cookies & M&Ms & ice cream cones
and all sorts of good stuff,
I'm giving your a whole box of chocolate-covered cherries.
Now, of course, they're not for you ...
They're for some day when you meet somebody
who wants a chocolate-covered cherry,
why, you'll have one right there!
'Course this may take a long time.
So while you're waiting, I guess it'd be okay if you had one.
Or two.
Or so.
Love, Steve
